Joel Matip will call on the experience gained from the difficult moments of his career thus far to help Liverpool overcome their recent slump – starting against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
The Reds have won just one of their last 10 outings in all competitions ahead of the weekend’s Anfield fixture, which will see them take on an opponent unbeaten since December.
According to Matip, the only way to emerge from such a rut is to work hard in training and aim to apply the lessons learned at Melwood on matchday.
And, should Jürgen Klopp’s squad do that, the giant defender is certain they will emerge from their recent run as a stronger unit.
“[At] my old club, we had something similar, some times like this,” he said.
“But we have to work hard to get more consistency. It’s not always easy to get back on a good way if you had a bad time with not so positive moments.
“But you learn a lot from these negative moments and this can make us stronger.”
Liverpool have dropped out of the Premier League’s top four after failing to win any of their last five fixtures in England’s top division.
