Henderson in line for Merseyside derby return

Jürgen Klopp today delivered an injury boost for Liverpool when asked if captain Jordan Henderson might return in time for the upcoming Merseyside derby, responding: “In this moment, yes.”

The No.14 has missed the Reds’ last three outings with a heel injury and remains unavailable for Sunday’s Premier League meeting with fellow top-four hopefuls Manchester City.

However, a post-international break comeback against the Toffees is on the cards, according to the manager.

Klopp was also called upon to offer updates on the fitness of Roberto Firmino, Dejan Lovren, Divock Origi and Daniel Sturridge in his pre-match briefing ahead of the trip to the Etihad Stadium.

But the German rejected suggestions that the injury list he has had to contend with of late is down to anything but poor luck.

He added: “It’s an intense season and things like this can happen. All the injuries we had were different, different players had a few more during the season.
