Liverpool will aim to benefit from the energy, emotion and passion surrounding the Merseyside derby this afternoon – but Everton will be looking to do exactly the same, according to Jürgen Klopp.
The Reds play host to the Blues at Anfield in the 228th edition of the fixture later today, with just six points separating the teams in the Premier League table.
Klopp is confident his players will rise to the occasion – particularly in the absence of injured teammates – in what is sure to be a fervent atmosphere, but acknowledges our opponents will be aiming to do just that themselves.
He wrote in his column in ‘This is Anfield’: “We do know we will be without Adam Lallana because of an injury sustained while playing for the England national team last weekend. This is frustrating because of Adam’s influence and importance for the team, but of course we cannot affect this now.
“As with any injury, or suspension, when a player is unavailable it presents opportunity to other players. This is why we have squads of players and why it is so important that the players apply themselves in training each and every day and also use the opportunity to play U23s football at the appropriate moments.
