Jürgen Klopp considered Philippe Coutinho’s performance in the Merseyside derby a demonstration of his ‘world-class credentials’.
The No.10 was hugely influential in Liverpool claiming a 3-1 victory over neighbours Everton on Saturday, restoring their lead at a crucial time in the first half and later setting up Divock Origi to seal the result.
His display – and that of compatriot Roberto Firmino, too – merited additional praise given the exertions on international duty for Brazil in the preceding days.
With the injured Sadio Mane set to miss out on tonight’s clash with Bournemouth, the manager sees this game and those remaining in the season as more chances for the likes of Coutinho to take control.
“Sadio’s absence provides an opportunity for others to step up and take the chance presented,” Klopp writes in official matchday programme ‘This is Anfield’.
