“We’ve seen how much we’ve improved in the last 18 months as a team and as a club. Everyone is a lot more positive because he arrived here and gave us that extra energy.”
Lucas’ own future is likely to be questioned once more this summer. The Brazilian has been linked with transfers away on numerous occasions in recent years, and could look to move on in search of regular first-team football.
But the 30-year-old, who has started 17 games in all competitions for the Reds this season, insists there is no bitterness towards his manager, and says he will sit down and discuss his options at the end of the current campaign.
Lucas said: “My relationship with him is fantastic. He’s a guy I’ve learned a lot from on the pitch and off.
“He also knows how I am when I’m not playing so much, but there are never any problems.
